WABI SABI interior – rough, raw and authentic

Wabi sabi

Wabi-Sabi interior includes grounding by forming a deep connection with the earth and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

Till now, high-level interiors meant smooth glossy surfaces, expensive luxury materials, and magazine-worthy perfection for a very long time. However, the new non-standard and revolutionary Wabi Sabi trend has entered the world of interior design. It rejects this perfection and gives way to the rough, raw, and authentic. In fact, I could awkwardly try to explain Wabi Sabi’s philosophy.

Still, I chose to take an excerpt from Beth Kempton’s book, the Japanese wisdom of a perfectly imperfect life, where he describes things in their natural, most authentic way.

Wabi-sabi (“wah-bi sah-bi”) is a captivating concept from Japanese aesthetics, which helps us see beauty in imperfection, appreciate the simplicity and accept the transient nature of all things. With roots in zen and the way of tea, the timeless wisdom of wabi-sabi is more relevant than ever for modern life as we search for new ways to approach life’s challenges and seek meaning beyond materialism.

Wabi-sabi is a refreshing antidote to our fast-paced, consumption-driven world, which will encourage you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and be gentler on yourself. It will help you simplify everything and concentrate on what really matters.

From honouring the rhythm of the seasons to creating a welcoming home, from reframing failure to ageing with grace, wabi-sabi will teach you to find more joy and inspiration throughout your perfectly imperfect life.

Above all, the aesthetic features of Wabi-Sabi interior include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy. It is a symbol of appreciation of the incredible integrity of natural objects and processes, which is mesmerizing. In addition, the focus on rich natural textures brings absolute authenticity and uniqueness.

In this paragraph, i will share with you five easy ways to embrace Wabi-Sabi in your own home.

So, you can spend less time in anxiety. In addition, all we need is more time in harmony, appreciating the beauty of the objects around us.

Imperfect Kitchenware

Firstly, I think it’s time to accept that kitchens aren’t meant to be perfect. Don’t perfect glossy kitchens look strangely sterile and a little scary anymore? Imagine natural wood cabinets laden with fruits and vegetables from your garden.

WABI SABI and Natural Fibers

Secondly, think about rattan, jute, wool, linen and silk.

In other words, natural fibres are a great way to make your home feel like a natural home. They are also fascinating to watch. Humans are sensory beings, and the sensation of raw materials on the skin calms both mentally and emotionally.

Patinated surfaces

Thirdly, and most importantly, the patinated surface gives the object character and history. It ensures that the detail you own is one of a kind. The best? Of course! For instance, almost any natural surface will unfold a patina over time. Each passing day, month or year will become more beautiful and unique.

According to Wabi Sabi, Broken is more beautiful.

You may have heard of Kintsugi. The Japanese believe that when something breaks, it becomes more beautiful and stronger where broke the piece. It is a lovely lesson in acceptance and growth and speaks of sustainability. Something to think about before throwing away this broken coffee cup. What to throw away and what to collect? Likewise, what about relationships between people, isn’t it the same?

Wabi-Sabi is an art in warm neutral tones and textures

In other words, instead of your conventional beautiful picture, choose highly textured abstract compositions with bold touches. Above all, elements that bring you good emotions. The key here is to strike a balance between warm, neutral tones and an interesting composition.

Many crave natural, physical, and authentic things with technologies taking over our lives. Finally, Wabi-Sabi’s philosophy meets this need, making it more sustainable than just passing fashion. Whether you decide to completely switch to Wabi-Sabi interior tomorrow or achieve it in your space over time, rest assured that this trend will not disappear soon.

In conclusion, It is an inspiring new way to pay attention to the design of your home and your life.
